Why does my iPhone create HEIC files?
Since iOS 11, iPhones save photos as HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) by default. The format is roughly half the size of JPG at the same quality — great for the storage on your phone. Outside the Apple world, though, support is still patchy: older Windows versions, many upload forms and some print services refuse HEIC files or display them incorrectly.
For those situations JPG remains the safest choice: every device and every program can open it. Hence this converter.

The conversion uses the same open-source library (libheif) that major photo applications use, compiled to WebAssembly for your browser. Which is why — unlike with most online converters — your photo never has to travel to a server.
Note: the JPG no longer carries your metadata

Frequently asked questions
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The conversion happens entirely in your browser, on your own device. You can verify it yourself: the tool keeps working if you switch off your internet connection after the page has loaded.
Do I lose quality when converting?
JPG compresses differently from HEIC, so technically there is always a small re-compression. We use a high quality setting (90%), so in practice the difference is not visible. Your original HEIC file stays untouched on your device.
Can I convert several photos at once?
Yes. Select or drop as many files as you like; they are converted one after another and you download a JPG per photo.
Does this work on my phone or tablet?
Yes. The tool runs in any modern browser, including iPhone, iPad and Android. Converting large files just takes a little longer on a phone than on a computer.
